For the enhancement of exchanges between countries involved in scientific explorations in the Antarctica and the promotion of GIS database construction in King George Island by scientists worldwide, this workshop is organized on the two themes of

1. GIS work on King George Island , and
2. Internet GIS - technology and reality.

Topics that we are looking for papers to cover would include:

• plans to digitise existing maps in system independent mode
• plans to add non topographic data
• plans for Chinese GIS products
• plans for the German project on KGI
• plan for demonstration / workshop at XXVI SCAR in July of KGI GIS products etc
• on-line Antarctic GIS products
• the development of a cooperative GIS project(s) for KGI
• the demonstration of GIS technology in Antarctica for science logistics and environmental purposes
