NOTICE OF SCAR ANTARCTIC GEODESY SYMPOSIUM (AGS'02)
ON REGIONAL GEODETIC NETWORKS
Wellington, New Zealand, 25-27th November 2002
The Geodetic Infrastructure of Antarctica (GIANT) program of the Geospatial Information Group within the Geoscience Standing Scientific Group plans on holding a Geodesy Symposium. The proposed theme of the symposium is "Antarctic Regional Geodetic networks".
The event will be hosted by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) at their offices in Wellington. LINZ is responsible for providing New Zealand's authoritative land and seabed information.
One focus of the symposium will be the deformation network surveys established and proposed along the Trans Antarctic Mountains. Other elements will include: sea level determinations from tide gauges in Antarctica; calibration and installation of tide gauges; and intercontinental connections to other Gondwanaland fragments using GPS or VLBI techniques. Papers examining monitoring of active volcanoes by GPS will also be considered.
Potential attendees are invited to send abstracts of papers for inclusion in the program by 30th August 2002. Please send abstracts to either Glenn Johnstone or John Manning.
