ANTARCTIC GEODESY SYMPOSIUM - AGS'98
UNIVERSIDAD OF CHILE, JULY 16 - 17, 1998
SANTIAGO - CHILE
Dear Colleague :
In conjunction with the XXV SCAR and X COMNAP/SCALOP Meetings, which will be held July, 20th to 28th 1998 in the Universidad of Concepcion in Concepcion - Chile, the SCAR Working Group on Geodesy and Geographic Information will hold an ANTARCTIC GEODESY SYMPOSIUM - AGS'98 in the Universidad of Chile, in Santiago City from July, 16th to 17th , 1998.
The objectives of the Symposium are to sponsor knowledge exchange, between SCAR and non SCAR Antarctic researchers, in the field of Geodesy, and its inter-relation with the Geophysics, Glaciology and other Earth Sciences in Antarctica. The symposium will provide an opportunity for discussion and exchange of ideas leading to greater integration of research programs in the Antarctic through cooperation between specialists.
The symposium is endorsed by the SCAR Working Group on Geodesy and Geographic Information as part of its GIANT program and is sponsored by the Universidad de Chile and the Instituto Antártico Chileno. It provides a significant opportunity to merge SCAR and non-SCAR geodesy research for geophysical applications. The symposium will be held in Santiago in the week prior to the SCAR Working Group meetings, which are scheduled to be in Concepción, from 20 - 24th July 1998.
A major theme of the symposium will be the geodynamics of the Antarctic Peninsula and the region associated with the Scotia Arc. The presentation of geodesy research from other Antarctic regions, and the whole of Antarctica will also be included. The symposium seeks, in particular, to encourage presentations currently related to research from South, and North American scientists involved in Antarctic programs. The symposium will include invited speakers and invited technical papers related to the sessions from individual presenters. Abstract of papers should be sent to Prof V.Villanueva-Lopez at the Instituto Antártico Chileno by 15 May 1998. Summaries of papers will be published on the SCAR WG-GGI website following the symposium.
For these reasons and knowing the important scientific and investigation work that you have accomplished, I invite to you sincerely to participate in this important event, to permit us to share in your important scientific work, and to provide a scientific paper of outcomes of your work relevant to the topics set out in the accompanying program
I cordially invite you to come to Santiago and to participate the Antarctica Geodesy Symposium - AGS'98.

Venue : Universidad de Chile, Santiago - Chile.
Summary
The purpose of the Antarctic Geodesy Symposium - AGS’98, is to present current research in Antarctic Geodesy for Geophysical applications and to promote interaction among appropriate geo-scientists working within and outside the SCAR Geodesy program.
The symposium is endorsed by the SCAR Working Group on Geodesy and Geographic Information as part of its GIANT program and it is sponsored by the Universidad de Chile, Instituto Geografico Militar . IGM, the Instituto Antartico Chileno -INACH, The Comite Nacional de Investigaciones Antarticas - CNIA and Working Group on Geodesy and Geographical Information of the Scientific Committe on Antarctic Research WGGGI - SCAR. It provides a significant opportunity to merge SCAR and non SCAR geodesy research for geophysical applications.
The symposium will be held in Santiago in the week prior to the SCAR Working Group meetings, which are scheduled to be held in Concepcion, Chile, from 20th to 24th July 1998.
A major theme of the symposium will be the geodynamics of the Antarctic Peninsula and the associated region of the Scotia Arc. The presentation of geodesy research from other Antarctic regions, and the whole of Antarctica will also be included.
The symposium seeks, in particular, to encourage presentations of current related research from South and North America, and other country scientists involved in Antarctic programs.
The symposium will include invited keynote speakers and invites technical papers related to the sessions from individual presents.
